Book Introduction

First book Bearing Fruit is titled, More Blessed Than Me: Journey, Exacerbate, Spirituality, Sovereignty, and Ecstasy (JESSE).  More Blessed Than Me, affectionately known as MBTM, is a collection of 88 poems.

More Blessed Than Me is an invitation to “dance” with me. An invitation to see me along with the vulnerability and courage required to let you in. You are invited to move  through the pages of my life filled with great joy, devastating pain, heartbreak and heartache, family, sisterhood, love, sex, courage and the faith required to live a more enriched life on purpose. My first prayer is your heart, body and mind accepts the invitation and find connection, feel redemption, release your pain, celebrate your life (forward and back is learning), question  beliefs and behaviors, and realizes each of us is so  very blessed.

The five pathways in this book are subtitled, JESSE. These pathways ignite and birth a life forged on love, perseverance, wrestling with self-worth, disappointment, victory and faith. The pathways include Journey, establishes my path and its guiding light; Exacerbate requires  introspection and an ability to wrestle with the impact and responsibility we have for and on the lives of other people; Sovereignty speaks to the freedom and exhilaration inherit in walking into our purpose; Spirituality is about our relationship with our Creator and the pilgrimage our souls are on prior to their crossing; and Ecstasy as it roars with simple caresses to explosions of sensuality reminding us of our holistic human existence.  My second prayer is this invitation empowers you to reflect on your life and realize, given your path, who is more blessed than you?

Awakening

For the awakening
Of my soul
And the movement
Of my heart
And the stirring
Of the trees
I must thank you
For the dreams
Yet to have
And those left

To fulfill
I must thank you
For the family
As a gift
For compassion and love
Easy yet swift
I must thank you
For the snow flakes
And the sun
For the man
When we are one
I must thank you
movement
Of my heart
`And the stirring
Of the trees
I must thank you
For the dreams
Yet to have
And those left
To fulfill
I must thank you
For the family

As a gift
For compassion and love
Easy yet swift
I must thank you
For the snow flakes
And the sun
For the man
When we are one
I must thank you

I Thought

I met you
2x
in a dream
You
look like
my blessing
right out of a
Hollywood scene
All through our discussion
the first time
we met
You

asked “where’s the book?”
I said, “Not yet.”
I had other things
gifts
I wanted to share
but
You
smiled at me

You said, “let me know when it gets here”

Years later
you walked onto
the platform of my dreams
Again, excited
because you returned
Your light
ever shining
still
prescribing “things”
for self-care and to learn

So

I tell you about my goal
to save HBCU’s and my play
You gave me that

“She don’t understand what’s going on” look
formed a smile and these words
she did say, “where’s the book?”
I felt it was so unfair
How God keep giving me
things to think and do
They
ain’t going nowhere
what’s wrong with what I’ve done
when did the order list
come out
cause I’m struggling
in this dream
who tells
Oprah to get out
She smiles at me
she has read my mind
She said, “I didn’t come to hurt you
God’s got a purpose for you and your gift

Chile, it’s divine
Finish a -the book”
I could not respond
She got ready to leave
My disappointment quite clear
She turned to me

said, “I know there’s something we share

telling your truth
makes you scared
but you have to fight against it
come hook or crook……
God is trying to use you….
Stop wasting time….

We all
just
Waiting on that book

Give Me Tonight

Give me Tonight
One night to Make a Difference
Not to touch your body
But to reach places I have not
Let me reach your mind and
The blessings of your Soul

I want you to know
There is something
That exists in me
To make me better for you
For us…..it’s a new passion
Different Thrust

Give me Tonight
And let the magic
In my eyes pull you back
Finding all that makes you laugh
Re-discover what makes your heart
Skip a beat

Let me talk and listen
Let me reach and believe
Let me question and answer
Let me show you
We can achieve

If you Give Me Tonight
Then an additional day won’t do
Cause I’m gonna
Keep working
Till
I’ve been blessed with
Everyday
And
All of You

Silent Cheerleader

All these years
you hoped
my life had been full
you stayed connected enough
to hope my path
would make me happy
you hung in there
as a silent cheerleader
having once been me
you
watched your him
disrespect and deflect
you
tolerated and treated
the hurt
until death did you part
you loved me
while balancing
the duty of parent
and the shame of
betrayal
he and him
you knew
you hung in there
as a silent cheerleader
long after
having once been me
to guarantee
My life found
its
Sovereignty
